NEW YORK - Houston Dynamo midfielder Dwayne De Rosario was selected Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for his two-goal performance in his team's 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
De Rosario, a seven-year MLS veteran, scored his first two goals of the season in a five-minute span to help put the Dynamo (2-2-1) in a first place tie with Colorado and FC Dallas in the Western Conference. With the game tied 1-1 in the second half, De Rosario took the ball near midfield, pushed through the defense and unleashed a left-footed blast that beat Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul inside the right post. Houston maintained its pressure and De Rosario outraced a Rapids defender to finish off Brian Ching's centering pass intended for Paul Dalglish.
The 28-year old De Rosario is one of Major League Soccer's most electrifying and accomplished players. He is a two-time MLS Cup winner, a two-time finalist for the Honda Most Valuable Player, a two-time member of the MLS Best XI, and a two-time winner of the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year. De Rosario helped lead Dynamo to the MLS Cup championship in 2006 and scored the game-winning goal for the MLS All-Stars last season versus English powerhouse Chelsea FC.
This is De Rosario's first MLS Player of the Week award in 2007 and fourth of his career. Dynamo are back in action on Wednesday, May 16 on the road versus Toronto FC. The game, 7:00 p.m. ET at BMO Park, will be broadcast on MLS Direct Kick and MLSLIVE.tv.
The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
