Houston Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti today confirmed numerous media reports that the Dynamo are in talks to sign English forward Ade Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi, 34, is currently under contract with Burnley in the English Coca-Cola Championship. He has played for such English clubs as Norwich City, Bristol City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Stoke City, and Sheffield United. He scored the equalizer in a Carling Cup game against powerhouse Chelsea earlier this year, helping Burnley win on penalty kicks.
Born in England, Akinbiyi was capped once by Nigeria in 1999.
Akinbiyi will fly to Houston on Friday to undergo a physical in hopes of completing a move to the Dynamo.
