HOUSTON, TX --
The Houston Dynamo announced Thursday that it has signed a new, two-year partnership with La Ranchera, 850 AM.
Just as it did last season, La Ranchera will broadcast all Houston Dynamo regular-season and playoff games completely "en Español". In addition, La Ranchera will also broadcast some of the Dynamo's CONCACAF Champions League matches.
"The Dynamo are very excited to continue this relationship with Liberman Broadcasting and La Ranchera. We believe this partnership will be mutually beneficial to both parties, but, most importantly, it will offer a great service to both our fans and La Ranchera's listeners," said Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti.
"I think this is a great partnership," said La Ranchera General Sales Manager Gerardo Reyes. "We look forward to helping the Dynamo make history once again by winning their third MLS championship in 2009."
The team will gain additional exposure on La Ranchera's airwaves with its magazine show "La Hora del Dynamo," which will air on Mondays, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. CT. This year the show will be hosted by Daniel Mejía. Mejía will also cover the Dynamo from the broadcast booth, handling play-by-play duties.
La Ranchera caters to an upscale Hispanic audience. Along with XO, La Raza, and El Norte, La Ranchera belongs to Liberman Broadcasting, Inc., the largest privately held, Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States based on revenues. Liberman Broadcasting has radio and television clusters in Los Angeles and Houston, the 1st and 4th largest Hispanic markets in the U.S., respectively.
La Ranchera's first broadcast of 2009 will be on Saturday, March 21, as the Men in Orange host the Columbus Crew in their MLS season opener. The broadcast kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a half hour pre-game show, followed by the game at 7:00 p.m. CT.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and represented the United States in three consecutive regional championships.
