The first member of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft class has been announced.
Duke University forward Jeremy Ebobisse has signed a contract with MLS, as first reported by The Washington Post's Steven Goff on Monday. Ebobisse, 19, will not play collegiate soccer this fall and will be eligible for selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
According to Goff, Ebobisse, a US youth international, will train with either D.C. United or United's USL affiliate, Richmond Kickers, ahead of the January draft, because his hometown is nearby in Maryland.
Ebobisse scored nine goals and seven assists in two NCAA seasons at Duke. Goff also reports the striker spent a stint on trial this year with French Ligue 2 side Le Havre, currently coached by Bob Bradley, before signing his MLS deal.
Playing alongside Arsenal attacker Gedion Zelalem in the Bethesda-Olney Soccer Club academy, Ebobisse is not eligible for a Homegrown deal with any MLS team and will therefore be available for selection in the SuperDraft.
