Landon Donovan’s
potential finale tops the list for must-see games this weekend, but don’t stop
there. Here’s a breakdown of the three best games of the weekend, where to find
them and why you should care.
Everton at Birmingham City (FSC, Saturday at 10 a.m. ET)
Is there really any more we need to say about the swan song to Donovan’s magnificent run with the Toffees? Even though there’s talk that an MLS strike could extend Donovan’s loan, consider this to be his last game across the pond and therefore, simply a can’t miss. Birmingham City should provide a bit more competition than Hull City did last week, when Donovan scored at Goodison Park and helped Everton roll to a 5-1 victory.
Fulham at Manchester United (FSC Plus, Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET)
There’s always a reason to watch the Red Devils, especially with them coming off a dismantling of AC Milan this week and with Wayne Rooney currently as hot as anyone on the planet (except Kathryn Bigelow – take THAT Avatar!) But this one has a special pull for American fans too, thanks to the return of Clint Dempsey on Thursday against Juventus. Dempsey’s slated to make his first start since January, and it comes at Old Trafford to boot.
Chievo at AC Milan (FSC, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET)
Normally we’d look right past this one, but it will be interesting to see how Milan recovers from their debacle this week at Old Trafford. One player you won’t see is defender Alessandro Nessa, who found out Friday about a broken tendon in his right knee and possible undergo season-ending surgery. Milan is four points behind Inter with just 11 games left, and also holds a narrow lead over AS Roma, so they need as many points as they can get from anywhere they can get them.
