AMSTERDAM – Free agent US defender Jay DeMerit will soon return from his post-World Cup 2010 rest and relaxation with more clubs bidding for his services than he had when he left, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
The 30-year-old worked all four US National Team contests in South Africa. When the tourney ended for the Nats, DeMerit had three offers from the top two divisions in England and one on the continent.
Now, the erstwhile Watford captain's agent has confirmed bids from England, Germany, Greece, Scotland and Turkey, as well as interest from the Netherlands. With all the new suitors, DeMerit's decision is likely still a couple of weeks away.
"He has several options and we need to sort through everything," Andrew Evans told MLSsoccer.com. "I don't expect anything to happen in the next 10 days."
During his six seasons at Watford, DeMerit appeared in 213 contests across all competitions.
