D.C. United on Sunday announced the signing of 23-year-old Italian midfielder Andrea Mancini, youngest son of Inter Milan head coach Roberto Mancini, who trialed with the club during the 2016 preseason.
Mancini, an Inter Milan and Manchester City academy product, recently played with Szombathelyi Halidás of the Hungarian first division.
"Andrea impressed us in preseason with his technical proficiency and tactical understanding,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said in a club statement. "We look forward to seeing him develop with the rest of our group."
The Italian started out in Inter Milan's academy (2005-2009) before moving to Manchester City's youth set-up (2010-2011), where he played with current D.C. United player Paul Clowes. He played in Italy (Fano), England (Oldham Athletic) and Spain (Valladolid B) before landing in Hungary, first with Honvéd Budapest and then Szombathelyi Halidás last year.
