After a weather-delayed start, Bradley Wright-Phillips didn't wait long to bring the Atlantic Cup goods to Audi Field, scoring his 100th MLS career goal -- all for the New York Red Bulls -- in the 2nd minute of an eventual 1-0 victory over D.C. United on Wednesday.
Shortly after the conclusion of an 87-minute delay due to lightning, MLS assist leader Kaku slipped a through ball that released BWP, who collected it back to his right foot. He curled a shot toward the near post that caromed off a diving David Ousted and into the back of the net. Wright-Phillips then shed his jersey to reveal ... another jersey, this one with the No. 100 replacing his usual 99.
Paul Arriola put a ball in the back of the net midway through the first half, but it was disallowed after a Video Review established that he was offside. Second-half sub Wayne Rooney went down in the 66th, looking for a penalty shout, but the teams played on following a check with the VAR.
