In one way, it wasn't David Bingham's night. In another, it very much was.
The LA Galaxy goalkeeper ultimately conceded three goals as the San Jose Earthquakes came back to win 3-1 in the California Clasico at Dignity Health Sports Park on Friday, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
Bingham made 14 – yes, 14 – saves in the match to try and hold back the Earthquakes. He maintained a shutout until the 61st minute, but with San Jose posting a staggering 32-to-5 edge in shots on the night, the visitors would not be held back, in spite of Bingham's efforts.
Still, the 'keeper nearly broke an MLS record with his 14-save performance, coming just one short of the all-time mark, set by Tony Meola in 1997 with the MetroStars.
The 32 total shots and 16 on target were both club records for the Earthquakes. The five shots for the Galaxy were also the fewest by LA at home since June 2, 2016.
