Will he or won’t he? That is the never-ending question around Cristiano Ronaldo’s future and MLS.
The latest breadcrumb on the trail of clues isn’t what MLS fans want to hear, though.
“Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City can forget it, I'm retiring at Real Madrid,” the 31-year-old said of recent rumors about him transferring, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. “I have had good and bad moments, four years ago I was not happy but there is no better place to be than here.”
Though it’s not the first time Ronaldo has said he wants to retire with the club where he's spent the last seven seasons, there’s also been plenty of hints suggesting the megastar could land in MLS, especially at one of the expected expansion teams in Los Angeles or Miami.
Last year, Ronaldo’s agent mentioned the US as a potential destination for the striker after his contract with Real Madrid ends in 2018. A few months later, the rumblings got more specific in that Ronaldo was looking to play in LA, New York or Miami.
Earlier this year, reports emerged that Ronaldo was looking to make a permanent move to Miami, one of his preferred vacation spots, after his time finishes at Real Madrid. Ronaldo, for his part, didn’t rule out the possibility of playing in MLS when asked.
It looks like fans will just have to wait a bit longer to see what the Portuguese star does.
