Crew's Hejduk fined by league

Frankie Hejduk

Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee announced Friday that Columbus Crew midfielder Frankie Hejduk has been issued an additional $500 fine for his sending-off offense in the match against the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, April 17 at Arrowhead Stadium.

In the 45th minute of Kansas City's 1-0 victory over visiting Columbus, Hejduk received a red card after striking Alex Zotinca in the mouth on a dead ball situation in the Wizards penalty area as the Kansas City players set up their defensive wall before a Crew free kick. The sanction earned the 29-year-old U.S. National Team player an automatic $250 fine and one-game suspension ahead of the Crew's next match on Saturday, April 24 against the Los Angeles Galaxy at The Home Depot Center (10 p.m. ET, HDNet). Zotinca was also cautioned on the play and received an automatic $100 fine for showing lack of respect for the game.
