South Korea had a dream start to the World Cup, beating Greece, 2-0, to take the top spot in Group B after one match. The Taegeuk Warriors have now won their World Cup opener three tournaments in a row.
But coach Huh Jung-Moo sees this as the start of something for the side.
“The first game of any tournament is difficult, but my players really played very well, so I am very grateful,” Huh said after the match. "But we are just at the beginning now. We have more matches to play and we have to prepare for those games just as well."
The South Koreans next face Argentina, on June 17. The Argentines managed a 1-0 win over Nigeria later in the day.
“Argentina is, of course, the strongest team in our group and people are saying they could make the final,” said South Korea captain Park Ji-Sung. “Before the World Cup, we played a friendly against Spain and we thought about Argentina as we were playing that game. Of course, there is a lot of difference between the two teams, but the unexpected can happen in this World Cup, and that is what we are looking to do.”
