Pedro Santos scored his eighth goal of the season on a ferocious effort from distance, but Przemyslaw Tyton's very late heroics forced Columbus Crew SC to settle for a 2-2 draw against FC Cincinnati on Saturday night.
Gyasi Zardes also scored from the penalty spot for Columbus moments before halftime. However, he also missed a 90th-minute sitter before being denied twice by Tyton's reflex saves in second-half stoppage time.
Columbus still extended their unbeaten run to five matches after the first-ever MLS meeting between these teams. After falling behind by two early at MAPFRE Stadium, a draw will be of little satisfaction, having begun the day eight points beneath the Eastern Conference playoff line.
Darren Mattocks headed in a corner kick early for FC Cincy, the first ever goal in the league version of the Hell is Real Derby, and Emmanuel Ledesma took advantage of a flubbed defensive clearance to double the visitors' lead. From there, the last-place side held on for their first point in five matches, in the managerial debut of Dutchman Ron Jans.

Three Things
THE BIG PICTURE:
Before the game began, both sides took a moment to remember the victims of a mass shooting last weekend in Dayton, Ohio, in which nine people plus the gunman lost their lives. Both teams also wore black armbands in memory of the victims.
