The Seattle Sounders are seeking a third straight win to bolster their hold on second place in the Western Conference when they take on a Colorado Rapids squad that stunned the New York Red Bulls in Robin Fraser's debut as head coach.
The Rapids (8-14-6) snapped a three-match winless streak Saturday night, defeating the Red Bulls 2-0 at Red Bull Arena. Jonathan Lewis scored a goal in each half and Tim Howard made three saves to earn his fourth clean sheet of the season in his final game in his home state against his former club.
The Sounders (13-8-7) moved up to second in the West after a wild 4-3 win over the LA Galaxy Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Seattle raced out to a two-goal lead after 55 minutes through Raul Ruidiaz and Cristian Roldan. But the Galaxy roared back to level on goals by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Uriel Antuna. The teams combined for four goals in a 14-minute span with Roldan netting the 89th-minute winner.
This is the second meeting this year, with the Sounders winning 2-0 at CenturyLink Field March 9. Kelvin Leerdam and Ruidiaz both scored inside the opening 10 minutes.
