The Colorado Rapids announced on Friday that they have signed 2016 second-round pick Dennis Castillo.
A defender out of Virginia Commonwealth University, the Rapids selected Castillo with the 37th overall selection in January’s SuperDraft. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Castillo started a school-record 80 games in four years at VCU.
“Dennis is a young defender with good technique and a great attitude,” Rapids VP of soccer operations and technical director Paul Bravo said in a statement released by the club. “He has all the fundamentals to go far in the game and we’re happy to officially add him to our squad.”
A former member of the Costa Rican U-18 and U-20 national teams, Castillo will occupy an international slot on the Rapids’ roster. He will be available for selection when Colorado hosts Seattle on Saturday (9 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
