TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Trade
TheColorado Rapids have acquired wingback Deklan Wynne from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for $100,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) in a trade announced Tuesday.
Vancouver, who signed Wynne to an MLS contract immediately prior to the trade, will also retain 20 percent of any future transfer fees for Wynne.
"We'd like to thank Deklan for his dedication to the club during his two years in Vancouver," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a team release. "This move will give us additional flexibility as we continue to build our roster for the 2018 season."
The left-footed defender becomes the second New Zealand international to join the Rapids after Kip Colvey was selected by the club in the 2017 MLS Waiver Draft last week. They'll join their former international manager, Anthony Hudson, who was named to the Rapids' head coaching position late last month.
The 22-year-old Wynne spent the past three seasons in USL, making 20 starts and scoring twice in the 2017 campaign for Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
Wynne has 15 caps and two goals for New Zealand. He started New Zealand's first two matches at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup last summer, and also went the full 90 minutes in both legs against Peru in their international World Cup playoff series in November.
