Connecticut’s winning streak finally came to a close over the weekend.
After winning their first 11 games of the season, the Huskies didn’t lose, but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against Notre Dame on Saturday.
Even with the tie, freshman goalkeeper Andre Blake continued to impress. He made nine saves and posted a team record ninth-straight shutout as the Huskies’ impressive start to the season continued.

Another top program saw their winning streak end as Maryland dropped its first game of the season, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of rival Virginia. Will Bates scored the winner in the 84th minute. Casey Townsend grabbed his 12th goal of the year for the Terps, who host Adelphi and Duke this week.
Meanwhile, Maryland’s ACC rival North Carolina increased its unbeaten streak to eight with a 2-0 win over Clemson. Ben Speas and Billy Schuler scored in the game’s opening 25 minutes to give UNC a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Tar Heels face the College of Charleston on Friday.
After overcoming a slow start to the 2011 season, UCLA continued to leave those struggles behind, picking up two wins on a road swing to the Pacific Northwest. Four Bruins scored on Friday in a 4-1 defeat of Washington, but needed a last-minute game winner from sophomore midfielder Victor Munoz to best Oregon State 2-1 on Sunday.
The Bruins are at home this weekend for a conference clash with San Diego State.
It was a rough week for Indiana, which blew a 2-0 lead against Louisville to lose 3-2 in overtime, then dropped a second straight to Creighton on Sunday with a 1-0 loss. The Hoosiers will look to right the ship with away games at Butler and Michigan this week.
Earlier last week, Akron fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, losing 3-2 in overtime at UC Santa Barbara. The Zips came back home to defeat Northern Illinois 2-0 over the weekend, as the rebuilt defending champs continue to improve.
Only a few unbeaten teams are left across the college soccer landscape, one of them being a resurgent New Mexico side. The Lobos kept their unblemished record intact, traveling to Colorado to defeat Denver 3-2 and Air Force 2-1. They’ll face those same two teams this coming weekend at home.
