If you’re at Avaya Stadium this Wednesday (11 pm ET | TV & streaming info) and you think you see Chris Wondolowski in the stands, no you’re not going crazy.
The MLS all-time leading scorer will be cheering alongside the San Jose Ultras during the San Jose Earthquakes’ home match against the Philadelphia Union. Why the heck isn’t he on the pitch trying to bag goal No. 15 (or more) of the season, you might ask?
In last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Atlanta United, the 36-year-old striker was shown a red card from the bench – the first of his 15-year career. That means Wondolowski will have to miss a vital game for the Western Conference club, as they enter midweek clinging onto the No. 7 spot in the West for the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Aside from Wondolowski, San Jose will also be without winger Cristian Espinoza and head coach Matias Almeyda for their own dismissals against Atlanta.
If the Earthquakes score, you can bet fans will be looking to see how Wondolowski celebrates. Chest pound and exultation incoming?
