The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Thursday that star striker Chris Wondolowski and his former college teammates at Chico State will be hosting a soccer camp on December 13-15 to benefit victims of the recent Camp Fire.
The camp, taking place at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, will be free to those impacted by the Camp Fire. Other attendees are asked to donate $50, with all proceeds going to the North Valley Community Foundation. More information can be found on the Earthquakes' website.
The Camp Fire was the most destructive and deadliest fire in California history. Starting on November 8, the fire decimated the entire town of Paradise and much of the surrounding area. An estimated 19,000 structures burned down and at least 85 people died in the disaster. Chico State is mere miles from the areas most affected by the fire.
Wondolowski, 35, will be returning to the Quakes for his 15th season in MLS in 2019. Currently sitting on 144 goals scored in the MLS regular season in his career, he sits just one goal behind all-time MLS leading scorer Landon Donovan.
In addition to the more than $20,000 that the Quakes Foundation has already donated to help Camp Fire victims, the club is also donating equipment for the soccer camp as part of the NorCal Honda equipment donation series.
