He's not formally retiring from international soccer, but Chris Wondolowski thinks it might be the end of an era in his career.
The 33-year-old returned to the San Jose Earthquakes this week after participating in the Copa America Centenario with the US national team, with his primary action coming in the 4-0 semifinal loss to Argentina. In an interview with The Mercury News' Elliott Almond, Wondolowski indicated that while he's not making any definitive declarations, his time with the USMNT may be over.
"You never know," he said. "But I think that could be it."
A relatively late bloomer on the international scene, Wondolowski made his debut for the national team in 2011 and was a member of three Gold Cup squads, including the one that won the 2013 edition. He also played in the 2014 World Cup and this year's Copa America. He has 10 goals in 34 caps with the US.
Wondolowski also discusses being part of the Copa America, including his role in a historic Lionel Messi moment, as well as his return to the Earthquakes in the interview.
