Chivas USA sign defender Conrad

Chivas USA announced the signing of Jimmy Conrad on Thursday.

Former Sporting Kansas City defender Jimmy Conrad is Chivas USA’s newest member, the club announced on Thursday. Per MLS and team policies, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are very happy to come to an agreement with Jimmy," said Chivas USA interim general manager Jose Domene in a statement. "We believe that he’ll play an important role in next year's team, and that his talent and experience will help us both on and off the field."

Chosen by the Goats in the Re-Entry Draft after his option was declined by Sporting, the 33-year-old Conrad will help anchor the backline of a team that allowed 45 goals (fifth most in MLS) en route to a last-place finish in the Western Conference.

“It’s truly an honor to be part of the Chivas family. I’m excited to come to an organization with so much history behind the name,” said the center back. “I look forward to making Chivas USA fans proud on and off the field. I look forward to helping turn things around.”

Conrad brings a wealth of experience to the Red-and-White. A 12-year veteran of MLS, the Arcadia, Calif., native began his career in 1999 with the San Jose Earthquakes before moving to Kansas City for the 2003 season. A five-time MLS All-Star, Conrad has made 273 starts in 288 appearances, and has scored 19 goals. He also received the 2005 MLS Defender of the Year award.

Additionally, Conrad has captained the US national team and was a member of the squad that participated in the 2006 World Cup.
