Chivas USA have loaned out injury-plagued Cuban striker Maykel Galindo to USSF Division 2 side FC Tampa Bay.
With the additions of Venezuelan striker Giancarlo Maldonado and former LA Galaxy forward Alan Gordon, and the emergence of Jesus Padilla as a great partner for Maldonado, playing time up top for a striker looking to regain fitness would have been limited.
“This move allows Maykel to get first-team matches as he works toward regaining his form,” said Chivas USA head coach Martín Vásquez in a statement. “The opportunity exists for him to return to our team this season or next.”
The speedy forward joined Chivas USA in 2007, his most successful campaign to date. That season, the 29-year-old led the Goats in scoring with 12 goals and added five assists.
Since then, however, Galindo has been hampered by injuries. In 2008, the forward suffered with sports hernia and saw action in just 10 games, scoring one goal in the process. The following season turned out better for him, as he scored four goals in 23 matches.
This season, however, Galindo has again been limited due to injury. The former Cuba international has just four starts in six games and only one goal for the Red-and-White in 2010.
