Chivas USA announces youth team rosters

Club Deportivo Chivas USA of Major League Soccer announced Thursday its rosters for the Chivas USA Under-18 and Under-16 Teams, which will compete in the upcoming 2008-09 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season.


The Chivas USA U-18's and U-16's open their fall campaigns with a pair of friendlies against their counterparts from the United States Youth National Teams, this Saturday, Sept. 13 at The Home Deport Center. Both matches will take place on the Glenn 'Mooch' Myernick Field, with the U-16's kicking off at 4:00 p.m. PT and the U-18's kicking off at 6:00 pm. PT.


For both Chivas USA teams, the first official game of the U.S. Development Academy season will take place two weeks later, on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they face their counterparts from San Diego Surf Soccer. A full 2008-09 Development Academy schedule can be found at www.usssoccer.com.


The Chivas USA U-18 Team finished in third place in the Southern California Division of the 2007-08 Development Academy season with a record of 17-9-4 (W-L-T). Returning players from last year's U-18 side include Omar Becerra, Jose Diaz, Hector Molina, Leopoldo Morales, Jesse Paredes, Juan Quiroz, Victor Sanchez and Cesar Zamora.

The Chivas USA U-16 Team finished its 2007-08 Development Academy campaign on an eight-game unbeaten run in league play prior to the Summer Showcase, finishing seventh in the Southern California Division with a record of 11-10-9 (W-L-T). Returning players from last year's U-16's include Jaime Cano, Daniel Castro, Carlo Chueca, Bryan De La Fuente, Angel Gonzalez, Yohel Martinez, Angel Rodriguez, Carlos Torres and Jose Velasquez.

The U.S Soccer Development Academy is a nationwide youth development initiative, organized by the U.S. Soccer Federation, featuring 74 of the top youth teams in the country competing in a league system at both the U-18 and U-16 levels for the 2008-2009 season The 74 youth programs which has been increased from 63 teams from last season, includes the 2007-2008 U-16 Champions Carmel United and the U-18 Champions Baltimore Bays.
