Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a Grade 2 sprain of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his left knee, suffered in training on Thursday. An MRI taken in Santa Monica, Calif., after Friday's practice revealed the extent of the injury, which will not require surgery.
Bornstein is one of three Chivas USA players who have played every minute of the 2008 season, alongside midfielder Jesse Marsch and goalkeeper Brad Guzan, and the defender notched two assists in the team's first six games. Bornstein, the 2006 MLS Rookie of the Year, has been an important part of the Chivas USA defense since joining the team, playing 61 games in his career, scoring 7 goals and adding 7 assists.
Chivas USA hosts the New England Revolution tomorrow in a Mothers Day match at 12 noon PT at The Home Depot Center.
