The Chicago Fire have once again gone across the pond for some reinforcements.
The Fire announced on Wednesday that they have added striker David Arshakyan from Lithuanian top division club FK Trakai as a Special Discovery Signing. Arshakyan, a 21-year-old Armenia international, agreed to a two-year deal with club options for the third and fourth years.
"As we tracked David, we were impressed by his winning attitude and ability to score goals in a variety of different ways," said Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez in a statement released by the club. "He has a very good soccer IQ, imagination and obvious size. David also expressed a keen desire to join our club in particular and to help us build a championship program."
Arshakyan began his professional career with Armenian side FC Mika in 2012 and made three Premier League appearances as his side captured the 2012-13 Armenian Super Cup. He moved to FK Trakai prior to the start of the 2015 season, playing in 34 league matches and scoring 25 goals, with three hat-trick performances, to finish just three goals shy of the top scorer's tally.
This season, the forward scored nine goals in 18 appearances for Trakai.
