The Chicago Fire announced on Thursday that midfielder Patrick Nyarko had undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury was suffered in the 81st minute of a 2-1 road loss against D.C. United on Oct. 18, and is expected to miss approximately six to eight months.

Nyarko, a native of Ghana, finished the 2014 season with one goal and three assists in 17 appearances. His last helper of the year came earlier in the game against D.C., when he set up Harry Shipp to move into a tie for fourth with Justin Mapp on the team's all-time assists list. He previously missed time this season with a knee sprain.

In total, the 28-year-old has 16 goals and 35 assists in 177 MLS appearances, all with the Fire, after being selected by the club with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.
