Eight youth soccer teams from around the country and Latin America convened at Easton Fields in Columbus, OH on Friday, July 29 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for the Jetix Kids Cup International Final Tournament, organized by Major League Soccer. In the girls international final, the SoCal Blues from San Juan Capistrano, CA, defeated Carlos Drummond from Sao Paulo, Brazil by a score of 3-2. In the boys international final, Colegio Percepcao from Rio de Janiero, Brazil posted a blank sheet in their 1-0 victory against the Lynbrook Magic from Lynbrook, NY. The winning teams were presented with their awards on the Sierra Mist stage at the Easton Town Square Soccer Celebration.
Teams of youth players aged 10-12 from across the U.S. who qualified in regional events held in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, as well as two teams from Brazil competed in these spirited games. The youth tournament was attended by MLS players, Chris Klein from the Kansas City Wizards, Steve Jolley from FC Dallas and Duncan Oughton from the Columbus Crew, along with MLS scouts. The action-packed, five-a-side international soccer event promotes the importance of kids leading active and healthy lifestyles, as well as the values of sportsmanship, fair play, cultural exchange and the pure exhilarating fun of athleticism.
The teams that participated in the Jetix Kids Cup International Final attended the 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, July 30th, and took part in the pre-game ceremonies. The Jetix Kids Cup International Boys Finalists were: The Hurricanes from Chicago, Illinois, the Nitemares from Chino Hills, California, the Magic from Lynbrook, New York, and Sociedade Educaccional Percepcao from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Girls finalists included: the MG Storm from Morton Grove, Illinois, the SoCal Blues from San Juan Capistrano, California, the Thunder from East Meadow, New York, and Carlos Drummond from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
"Jetix Kids Cup," an energetic short-form television series, will highlight the fun and adventure from the regional tournaments and the finals. It will be presented Saturday, August 20 during ABC Kids on the ABC Television Network and Sunday, August 21 during Jetix programming blocks on Toon Disney and ABC Family. On air on all three platforms (ABC Kids, ABC Family and Toon Disney), "Jetix Kids Cup" programming will be jointly sponsored by Gatorade and Kellogg's.
