Toronto FC will once again battle it out with Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps to be crowned the kings of Canadian soccer. The Nutrilite Canadian Championship returns for a second season with more than just pride at stake. The winners of the tournament will represent Canada in the CONCACAF Champions League.
"The competition was unbelieveably well received in the first year," said Toronto FC Senior Director of Business Operations Paul Beirne. "Doing well in the tournament is a high priority for us. We play at home in the first two games and hopefully we can use our home field advantage to get a good start and then seal the deal in Montreal in mid June."
"I would like to see us playing later into the summer, but we needed to have clarity earlier on who will represent Canada in the CONCACAF Champions League so we couldn't have a Canada Day match like we did last year. We are excited about having another swipe at Montreal. Vancouver won their league last year and are hungry to get into Major League Soccer so there is a lot to prove in this year's tournament," explained Beirne.
