The Canadian men's national teamunveiled its roster for their first home match in 2018-19 Concacaf Nations League qualifying, and it has a heavy dose of MLSers.
Head coach John Herdman called in a mix of youngsters and veterans for an Oct. 16 match vs. Dominica at BMO Field, including Vancouver Whitecaps phenom Alphonso Davies and fellow teen Ballou Tabla, who earned his first call-up after recently choosing to play for Canada over Ivory Coast. Tabla began his career with the Montreal Impact before getting transferred to FC Barcelona.
Davies and Tabla were among six teenagers called up to the squad and eight players aged 21 or younger, including Impact Homegrown goalkeeper James Pantemis.
Some of the squad’s more seasoned players include the Impact’s Samuel Piette, Vancouver’s Russell Teibert and Doneil Henry, and a Toronto FC quartet of Tosaint Ricketts, Ashtone Morgan, Jonathan Osorio and Jay Chapman that will be playing in their home stadium.
Former Orlando City SC striker Cyle Larin, now with Turkish club Bestikas, also earned a spot on the roster.
