Bremen's Diego nears move to Juve

Diego

Werder Bremen midfielder Diego has revealed he is close to joining Juventus.

The Brazilian playmaker, who is under contract with the German outfit until June 2011, is being tipped as Pavel Nedved's replacement at the Turin giants.

A fee has already been agreed between the two clubs and Diego is optimistic the transfer is on the verge of being finalized.

"We are very close but there is one minor step that has yet to be taken," said Diego in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I have already told (Juve sporting director Alessio) Secco that I want to play at Juventus.

"I believe Serie A is the most beautiful and most difficult league.

"Juventus have made a point to express how much they want me and in Italy there are great players."

Diego helped Werder reach the UEFA Cup final against Shakhtar Donetsk but will miss the May 20 game in Istanbul through suspension.

He joined Werder in 2006 from Porto and quickly became one of the Bundesliga's top players.
