UPDATE: Atlanta United head coach Tata Martino suggested after the match that it seems Almiron will miss the remainder of the regular season.
Atlanta United are looking at a potential blow in their chase for silverware this season, following an injury that forced a distraught Miguel Almiron off the field in the first half of their game against the New England Revolution.
The 24-year-old Atlanta playmaker, who has been integral to the Five Stripes' impressive start to life in MLS, went down away from the ball just prior to the half-hour mark, sitting down on the field. He was able to get up and walk off, mostly under his own power, but was visibly upset as he did so, covering his face as he talked with the trainer.
Per the team, the Paraguayan is being evaluated for a left leg injury:
Should Almiron miss any significant time Atlanta will be forced to make do without one of the most exciting players in the league, who has scored 12 goals and a joint team-high 14 assists across 31 games in 2018.
Atlanta will be back in action against the Chicago Fire on Oct. 21 before closing out their regular season with a trip to Toronto on Oct. 28. With the Five Stripes guaranteed a top-two finish in the Eastern Conference, their first game in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs will not come until Nov. 4.
