Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almirón was voted the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS™ by members of the media for the month of April.
The 24-year-old Designated Player tallied a league-leading five goals to go along with two assists in April to lead Atlanta to an undefeated 3-0-1 record during the month. Almirón is tied for first in MLS with six goals (with teammate Josef Martinez) and tied for fourth with four assists. Atlanta (6-1-1) are on a seven-game unbeaten run and sit second in the Eastern Conference with 19 points.
Almirón began the month with an assist and a pair of penalty kick goals in Atlanta’s 5-0 victory over the LAFC on April 7 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Paraguay international followed that with an assist to Chris McCann in a 2-2 draw with New York City FC on April 15.
The 2017 MLS Newcomer of the Year continued a strong run of play with a penalty kick goal in Atlanta’s 2-0 victory over the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center on April 21. Almirón rounded out the month with his second multi-goal performance of the season in a 4-1 victory at home over the Montreal Impact on April 28. A penalty in the 70th minute equalized the match, and his second goal in the 83rd minute made it 3-1.
