Atlanta United sign winger Machop Chol to homegrown deal

Atlanta United have signed winger Machop Chol to a homegrown deal, the club announced Tuesday. Chol was an original member of Atlanta United's U-18 academy team. 

Chol, 22, spent the last four years at Wake Forest, where he had 13 goals and 17 assists in 62 appearances. He was born in Sudan but he and his family emigrated to the United States in 2000. 

“Machop was one of the top collegiate players in the country this past season and we’re happy to welcome him back to the club,” technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “As an original member of our Academy, it has been gratifying to see him continue to develop at the collegiate level. He’s proven that there are several routes to becoming a professional and his pathway should be inspiration to all of our academy players.”
