TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signings
Atlanta United have signed four players from Atlanta United 2 to short-term agreements ahead of Wednesday’s Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Club America (8 pm ET | FS2, TUDN in US; TSN5 in Canada). The list features goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard, defender Jack Gurr and forwards Erik Lopez and Phillip Goodrum.
Short-term agreements are four-day deals where MLS clubs can sign players on loan from their USL affiliate for U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches. MLS clubs can sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).
This will be the second loan for Goodrum, but the first with the other three players. Goodrum was selected as the No. 75 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft out of UNC Wilmington. During the shortened 2020 USL Championship season, Goodrum led ATLUTD 2 with four assists and added two goals.
The other forward is Lopez, who’s set to join Atlanta’s first team come Jan. 1, 2021 after signing an ATLUTD 2 deal in July 2020. The 19-year-old was with Paraguayan Primera Division club Olimpia and has spent time training at the MLS level since joining the Five Stripes.
Gurr, a 25-year-old defender from England, signed with ATLUTD 2 ahead of the 2020 USL Championship season after also playing at Georgia Gwinnett College. He started 15 games, scoring once and assisting three times while adjusting to that level.
As for Lundgaard, he joined ATLUTD 2 in January 2020 and started 13 games. He spent last year playing on loan at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC from Columbus Crew SC, having been selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. He played college soccer at Virginia Tech.
Atlanta lost their CCL quarterfinal first leg against Club America, and now will look to overturn a 3-0 aggregate deficit.
