With Tom Barlow's 65th-minute strike in the 10-man New York Red Bulls' 1-0 victory over Atlanta United on Sunday, the second-year pro — in part filling for injured talisman Bradley Wright-Phillips — brought to an end one of the longest scoreless defensive streaks in MLS history:
Barlow's first MLS goal halted a stretch of 520 minutes in which Atlanta had not conceded, the eighth longest ever kept by an MLS team. They were only a minute away from tying the seventh-place mark set by the LA Galaxy in June and July of 2006. Had Atlanta finished the match with another clean sheet, they would've tied 2013 Sporting Kansas City for the fifth longest shutout stretch of all time.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Brad Guzan's personal streak of 520 scoreless minutes is the 10th longest in MLS history. Guzan is one of only three MLS goalkeepers with multiple 500-plus scoreless runs in his career, along with former longtime LA Galaxy fixture Kevin Hartman and Real Salt Lake veteran Nick Rimando.
Atlanta already reached the top of one all-time MLS list with their midweek in in Vancouver, becoming the first team in league history to win five consecutive matches while keeping a clean sheet in all of them.
