Atlanta United holds every top 10 MLS regular-season attendance record spot

Atlanta United supporters and a packed Mercedes-Benz Stadium tend to go together, so much that the 2018 MLS Cup winners now hold every top 10 attendance mark for standalone regular-season games in Major League Soccer history.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 win over FC Cincinnati, the club’s 2020 home league opener, saw 69,301 fans pack the stands. That figure slots in at No. 10 overall, with Atlanta’s 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy on Aug. 3, 2019 holding the top spot for drawing 72,548 fans.

That latter match is fifth all-time when factoring in doubleheaders of varying degrees, with the top four regular-season attendance figures layered into other games. But when looking at standalone events, the Five Stripes have no equal after bumping out the LA Galaxy's April 13, 1996 game against the New York/New Jersey MetroStars that drew 69,255 fans.

Below’s a look at the top standalone attendances in MLS regular-season history. Atlanta have now surpassed the 70,000 mark nine times in just over three years of hosting regular season games. They also own the MLS Cup and postseason attendance record, with 73,019 fans taking in their 2018 win over the Portland Timbers.
