AMSTERDAM – Sunderland Under-21 attacker Lynden Gooch inked a fresh three-year deal with the Premier League club on Monday.
The 18-year-old Gooch, who joined the club's academy in 2012, was in the final year of his contract. He has one assist in 12 appearances for the Black Cats in the U-21 Premier League this season.
The California native can operate either up top or behind a lead striker. In his U-21 Premier League debut back in February, Gooch hopped off the bench late to set up the insurance tally in a 2-0 derby win over their Newcastle counterparts.
Gooch is currently with the US U-20 national team in Marbella, Spain preparing for the International National Teams Football Tournament. The young Americans will open play against Russia on Nov. 12.
