American Exports: Liverpool confirm interest in Dempsey

For now, US international Clint Dempsey remains a Fulham FC player. But there is now at least one club that might be interested in changing that.

On Wednesday in Boston, ahead of Liverpool's three-match tour of North America, new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the club has put in an inquiry with Fulham about the possibility of acquiring the midfielder's services for the upcoming season.

"Clint is a player we've inquired about, it is as simple as that," Rodgers said. "Ian Ayre, our managing director, has spoken with the club to see what the position is. That is where we're at.”

Dempsey had a breakout season with the Cottagers in 2011-12, scoring 23 goals in all competitions, 17 of them in Premier League play.

"He's a very talented player,” Rodgers said of the 29-year-old, before adding, “but we don't like to talk about other clubs' players."

Liverpool travel to meet Toronto FC on Saturday at Rogers Centre in the second match of the World Football Challenge before facing AS Roma at Boston's Fenway Park on July 25 and EPL rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Baltimore on July 28.
