American Exports: Guzan notches first win for Hull City

Brad Guzan notched his first win with Hull City.

AMSTERDAM -- A handful of Americans clocked in for some Monday night football in Europe, with Villarreal striker Jozy Altidore making a late cameo in his team's 2-0 defeat of Almeria.

The US forward worked a mop-up seven minutes as the Yellow Submarine stayed clear in third place ahead of Wednesday's home cup derby with Valencia.

Over in England's second flight, Brad Guzan notched his first win on loan with Hull City, a 3-2 decision at Portsmouth.

The former Chivas USA star made seven saves look easy, including denials of Greg Halford, Dave Kitson, Ibrahima Sonko and Joel Ward in stoppage time to preserve the points.

Conor Doyle worked a quiet first half up front as Derby County fought visiting Millwall to a 0-0 draw.

Down in League One, Frank Simek worked a sturdy 90 minutes at right back and Mike Grella came on for the final 35 at forward as Carlisle United dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Tranmere Rovers.

The two Americans combined their way up the right to help set up the 78th minute Bluebirds equalizer, but after the hosts reclaimed the lead, Grella fired over on a glorious chance to level near time.
