GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Gabriel Farfan put pen to paper on a multi-year contract with Liga MX outfit Chiapas FC on Wednesday, the player informed MLSsoccer.com, completing his transfer from Chivas USA.
The 26-year-old from San Diego was on loan at Chiapas for the past Clausura 2014, but his spell was interrupted by injury and he only started twice in the Liga MX.
“It is like revenge,” Farfan told Chiapas’ official website. “I had the goal of playing last season, I debuted in the Liga MX … but now I have the new goal of playing more this tournament, getting more minutes and helping the team.”
Farfan missed the early part of preseason due to transfer negotiations not being completed but is currently training in Guadalajara with the squad ahead of Chiapas’ opener on July 20 at Estadio Omnilife against Chivas. Farfan was part of Club America’s youth system before moving to the Philadelphia Union in 2011, and then joining Chivas USA midway through the 2013 season.
The future of Farfan’s twin brother Michael (pictured at right) is less clear.
He signed a deal with Cruz Azul last December but appears not to be wanted by the club and is currently keeping fit with the Union.
With the deadline for transfers within Mexico ahead of the Apertura 2014 now having passed, Farfan cannot move to another Liga MX club and will either have to return to Cruz Azul or find a club in a different country.
