AMSTERDAM – Borussia Monchengladbach are expecting fresh catch Fabian Johnson to recover quickly from a hamstring strain suffered in the US national team's 2-1 World Cup loss to Belgium.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Foals on a free transfer at the end of his Hoffenheim deal, will join the team following a standard post-World Cup vacation, gathering with his new teammates in about two weeks when they return from a preseason camp located near the Austrian border.
"We think he can start training with no problems on the 21st," 'Gladbach press officer Markus Aretz told MLSsoccer.com. "There will be no delay; it's nothing serious."
Johnson, who notched six goals and 16 assists in 94 overall appearances for Hoffenheim, is expected to work the same right back position at Monchengladbach that he filled for the USMNT in Brazil.
Three days after entering the Europa League in the playoff round as a seeded team (against an opponent to be determined), the Borussia-Park crew open the new Bundesliga season with an August 24 visit from Stuttgart.
