AMSTERDAM — Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen have shot down a report insisting they were set to open talks with free agent US striker Eddie Johnson.
On Monday, The Evening Express claimed that Dons manager Craig Brown was hoping to beat the transfer deadline to land the 27-year-old, who spent the last half-season of his Fulham tenure on loan to Championship side Preston North End.
"The manager said he was made aware of his availability, but we just signed a striker last week and we near the limit of our budget," Aberdeen press officer Ian McDermid told MLSsoccer.com. "There probably won't be anyone coming before the deadline unless someone leaves."
Johnson recently came close to an MLS return, but a discussed deal was unable to be completed. The former FC Dallas and Kansas City Wizards ace also spent loan time away from Fulham at Greek side Aris FC and Cardiff City.
