Altidore hits for Villarreal in friendly vs. Besiktas

Jozy Altidore (above) and Omar Gonzalez have been added to the US team that will play Brazil on Aug. 10.

If Besiktas are still debating whether they want to acquire Jozy Altidore, the Turkish club got a pretty good sales pitch from the American striker on Sunday.

Altidore scored a 79th-minute equalizer against Besiktas for his current team, Villarreal, in a friendly at Estadio Madrigal. The 21-year-old nailed a right-footed volley off a cross from Cani, his first goal for the Yellow Submarine since returning from his loan spell last season at Hull City.

Besiktas is reportedly near a transfer deal for Altidore, who will rejoin the US National Team for its friendly against Brazil on Tuesday at New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.

No deal has been completed yet for the US World Cup veteran, but check back on MLSsoccer.com this week for reports from Greg Seltzer, as well as coverage of Tuesday’s friendly from MLSsoccer.com’s Simon Borg, Nick Firchau and Kristian Dyer.
