Alphonso Davies breaks Bundesliga speed record then sees red as Bayern Munich clinch title

Alphonso Davies - Bayern Munich - red card

Canadian starlet Alphonso Davies had another eventful outing for Bayern Munich on Tuesday, as the Bavarian giants clinched an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title with a 1-0 win at Werder Bremen.

Davies has been a breakout star as Bayern have stormed to yet another championship. And the former Vancouver Whitecaps Homegrown product gave another startling example of his athletic prowess when breaking the Bundesliga speed record with a sprint of 22.7 mph. That beat the mark of 22.67 mph set by Borussia Dortmund's Achraf Hakimi earlier this season.

But Davies did not have everything go his way, having been sent off for the first time in his senior career following a debatable second yellow card 11 minutes from the end.

Still, the decision could not mar what has been a season to remember for the 19-year-old. After arriving from the Whitecaps in January 2019, Davies established himself as a regular in the Bayern team this season. His performances at left-back have seen him compared favorably to the best in the world in that position and earned rave reviews from opponents and teammates alike. Last month, Bayern forward Thomas Müller famously referred to Davies as the "Bayern roadrunner."

There could be more accolades to come for Davies, with Bayen in the final of the DFB Pokal and Davies named on the shortlist for Italian newspaper Tuttosport's annual Golden Boy Award.
