A last-gasp Hugo Almeida goal denied Anorthosis Famagusta all three points in their Champions League Group B match with Werder Bremen at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium.
The Cypriot champions surged ahead with two second-half goals from Nicos Nicolaou and Savio.
But a Diego penalty and Almeida's last-minute strike stole a point for the Germans.
Almeida's strike meant Anorthosis lost their grip on second place to Panathinaikos, who were surprise 1-0 winners against Inter Milan in the other group game.
The point ends Bremen's hopes of reaching the last 16, and they must now hope they can overhaul Anorthosis for third place and a UEFA Cup berth in the final round of fixtures.
Clemens Fritz shook off a thigh injury to make the Bremen starting line up while Sebastian Boenisch overcame a similar injury to take his place on the bench.
Anorthosis have raised eyebrows with their performances this year and they started the brighter of the two sides.
Vincent Laban had the best chance of the opening exchanges when he tested Christian Vander with a 30-yard free-kick after three minutes.
Sinisa Dobrasinovic then had a chance to break the deadlock 11 minutes later but his header sailed agonisingly wide of Vander's goal.
Bremen, who are currently ninth in the Bundesliga, had their first real chance on 21 minutes when Diego reeled off a 20-yard shot that Zoltan Nagy saved comfortably.
Nagy was then called into action in the 34th minute when he saved a curling Torsten Frings free-kick after Ioannis Skopelitis pulled down the Germany international just outside the box.
The home side fought back and should have taken the lead five minutes before the break when Dellas broke free inside the box to get on the end of a Laban cross but the defender could only head wide.
Anorthosis coach Temuri Ketsbaia brought on Nicolaou at the break and the defender made an immediate impact by breaking the deadlock just after the hour.
The defender climbed high to meet an inswinging cross from the Brazilian Savio to nod the hosts ahead.
And Savio got himself on the scoresheet just six minutes later when he drilled home from close range after some tidy work down the left.
Nicolaou then allowed Bremen back into it two minutes later when he brought down on-loan Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro in the box.
Diego converted the spot-kick and Pizarro then almost leveled with a close-range effort soon after.
But worse was to come for the hosts, as in the final minute Boenisch nodded down Mesut Ozil's cross and Almeida reacted quickest to lash home a leveler that leaves Anorthosis needing to Panathinaikos in their final group outing to reach the last 16.
