Alhaji Kamara made his MLS debut for D.C. United on Friday night at Sporting Kansas City, and opened his league account just 33 seconds later. His goal would prove the game-winning goal of D.C.'s 1-0 win—and a top-five league record as well.
In overall MLS history, there have been 48 goals scored by a sub within one minute of coming into a game. Kamara’s became the official fifth-fastest goal by a sub since 2011. (That’s when the league began keeping count on this to the second, rather than just counting each as happening within one minute.)
The fastest ever? That also came from a current D.C. player, Alvaro Saborio, but when he was playing for Real Salt Lake, on Sept. 6, 2014. The Costa Rican entered a home game vs. FC Dallas as a sub and scored just 18 seconds later.
Kamara’s goal is also the fastest ever by a player making his overall league debut, and only the second such goal overall. The first came courtesy of Benji Joya, for the Chicago Fire on Mar. 9, 2014: He scored his within 49 seconds. Both are officially counted on the books as happening within one minute, but Kamara’s goal on Friday night is now the fastest ever by a sub making his MLS debut:
