Agbossoumonde on trial with Djurgardens

Gale Agbossoumonde

AMSTERDAM â€” Freshly capped US defender Gale Agbossoumonde is scheduled for a mid-January trial with traditional Swedish power Djurgardens IF.

The 19-year-old native of Togo spent the first half of 2010 on loan to Portuguese runners-up Braga without making a first-team appearance, before most recently suting up with USSF D-2 outfit Miami FC.

"He is supposed to come train with us on the 17th of January," Djurgardens press officer Jonas Riedel told MLSsoccer.com. "After that, we don't know."

Though he opted to leave any commentary about any possible backline job openings for co-managers Carlos Banda and Lennart Wass, the spokesman did confirm that it would be more than just a training visit.

"We don't just take 19-year-old Americans [into training]," Riedel said. "If the manager is taking him, then there is interest. We also must see if he likes it here."

Agbossoumonde, who earned his first senior national-team cap with a late cameo in last month's 1-0 win in South Africa, is under contract with Traffic Sports Management until the end of 2012.

Djurgardens finished 10th last season and have not made it past the qualifying stage in a UEFA tourney since 2002. However, The Pride of Stockholm do count 11 Swedish titles and four Svenska Cups to their credit.
