BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — When asked after Sunday night’s friendly between the Chicago Fire and AC Milan whether or not he would ever consider coming to MLS, Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf responded with this gem of a quote:
“To do what?” he asked playfully.
The 34-year-old Seedorf eventually put all joking aside and gave the media a straight answer.
“I will, hopefully, very soon be involved in MLS in one way or another,” said Seedorf. “I think it’s a market that deserves to grow because of enthusiasm and because of what football can bring to society.”
The former Dutch international, who scored the lone goal in Milan’s 1-0 win Sunday night, indicated that he was impressed with MLS’ recent growth.
“My feeling is that the MLS is improving,” he said. “Every time we come back there is some improvement, and that’s important. It is a process, as we know. But the thing I like is that the crowd is understanding [of] the game, great mentality, I would say the American mentality in sports, in general, great sporting culture and that will help football grow fast.”
But don’t get too excited, MLS fans. Seedorf has one year left on his contract at AC Milan and said that he has no intention of leaving Italy early.
“I have a year contract with AC Milan,” he said. “I'm a guy who likes to finish contracts.”
