The 2026 World Cup is coming to North America! The United Bid, which was jointly submitted by the federations of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, emerged as the winning bid after a public vote held among FIFA's member nations on the eve of the 2018 World Cup.
So where will the matches be played?
The bid included 23 cities as potential hosts for matches for the 48-team tournament. The list of 23 was pared down from an original group of 32 cities throughout the three countries, and the 23 will be cut down again, with up to 16 cities chosen to actually host World Cup games.
Of the 23 cities still in contention, 15 boast an MLS team (or two): Montreal and Toronto in Canada, and Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. in the US. Three more cities on the list will be the home of future MLS clubs (Cincinnati, Miami and Nashville). Among the specific stadiums under consideration, five currently serve as the home for MLS teams (Atlanta, Foxborough, Montreal, Seattle and Toronto).
