LAUDERHILL, Fla. – It took them five halves to do it, but adiZero finally got on the scoreboard at the 2015 adidas MLS Player Combine, scoring five second half goals in Tuesday’s first game to top Predator, 5-1.
UC Irvine forward Cameron Iwasa led the way for adiZero, scoring two goals and notching an assist to power his team to their first win of the week. New Mexico’s James Rogers, St. Louis’ Kingsley Bryce and Providence’s Fabio Machado had the other goals for adiZero, who were 0-2 entering Tuesday’s match.
Predator actually got on the board first, with Butler midfielder Zach Steinberger heading a Salvador Bernal corner inside the right post in the 18th minute.
AdiZero went on a tear in the second half, with Iwasa starting things off with his first goal in the 46th minute. Rogers quickly followed that up, giving adiZero a 2-1 lead with a 52nd-minute strike. Bryce made it 3-1 five minutes later, with Iwasa and Machado applying the finishing touches in the 60th and 75th minutes.
Nitro Charge won the final match of the Combine, staying unbeaten and moving to 2-0-1 at Central Broward Regional Park with a 1-0 win over Nativo.
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville forward Christian Volesky had the match’s lone goal in the 39th minute, racing in behind the Nativo defense to slot past UCLA ‘keeper Earl Edwards after a backheeled pass by Akeil Barrett. It was Volesky’s second goal of the Combine; the Las Vegas native scored in Nitro Charge’s 2-0 win over adiZero on Sunday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 13 players are scheduled to attend Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia. The draft will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com beginning at 12:30 pm ET.
